Certified Homestay is an initiative set up to connect welcoming, well-prepared, Guatemalan host families with international students, volunteers and families who need kind, safe, and supportive homestays. At the most basic level, certified families are instructed in safe food handling and preparation, water sanitation, and keeping healthy homes. Above and beyond that, they are trained in foreigner and student support and are cognizant of the factors that contribute one’s experience abroad and are practiced in and excited about opening their homes, their hearts, their language, and their culture to those, like you, interested in sharing it. New Life Cards
New Life Cards began back in October of 2005 when Maria Rivera Perez, an entrepreneur from AcTxumbal ("La Pista"), Guatemala, teamed up with CE Solutions to start a small sclae, recycled paper business. Maria learned how to break down and recycle waste paper that would otherwise be thrown away into handsomely crafted cards when she participated in a project with a local youth group and two Peace Corps Volunteers. With a great deal of practice and persistence, she worked with us to turn her hobby into the business, New Life Cards, using her earnings to continue her high school studies in accounting as well as to help ease some of her family's financial burdens.
Maria collaborated with us to help train other women in paper-making craftwork throughout Guatemala, and now New Life Cards proudly boasts a team of six utterly talented artisans, each with her own story, her own creative style, and her own hope for her "new life" that she pours into the cards she makes. Mayan Adventure is web portal and comprehensive Guatemalan tourist directory listing nearly 500 hotels, restaurants, Spanish schools, and a wide variety of other activities. Mayan Adventure offers representation to small, locally-run establishments who lack the resources to publicize online. Many of the reviews found on the site are actually conducted by participants of Social Entrepreneur Corps and other international volunteers living and working in Guatemala. Paginas Para Todos (Webpages for Everyone) is a service that was created to provide simple and affordable website design and hosting specifically to small businesses, entrepreneurs and organizations in Guatemala.
