Rural Education
Goal and Objectives
Goal
To offer practical and enjoyable educational solutions which address long standing inadequacies to the children and young people of the Ixil Region
Objectives
- To create a locally administered, responsive and innovative educational institution
- To teach high-quality library and internet research skills.
- To offer fun and productive after-school classes and activities so that children and youth can become better educated and improve their analytical skills and creative thinking.
- To create an "educational incubator" of new ideas and concepts for schools and projects throughout the region, country and for other rural communities in the developing world.
Highlighted Programmatic Objectives:
Library Program
- To impart basic research and literacy skills through a locally operated library which also creates long-term local employment
- To provide an affordable, accessible and comprehensive
library/research center for aspiring students in the Ixil area, making otherwise prohibitively expensive educational materials available for their use and thereby enhancing the quality of local education.
- To inspire a love of reading in the youth of Nebaj and, over time, instill a local culture of reading for leisure and interest as opposed to only reading for school or work.
Computer and Internet Literacy Program
- To familiarize the local populace with information technology and acquaint them with electronic, internet/based research
- To provide quality computer and internet technology access at a price accessible to the average local citizen
- To further the educational ends of the library by helping clients to develop computer skills and internet research skills with the ultimate goal of breaking the vicious cycle of poverty by helping the local economy generate its own human capital
After-School Program
- To promote critical thinking by creating a safe, fun environment where students can learn through exploration.
- To foster learning by providing access to a variety of age-appropriate fiction and nonfiction books, the Internet, and other technologies.
- To increase literacy skills and instill a love of reading through daily read alouds.
- To improve the academic achievement of students through daily enrichment activities in the areas of Reading, Writing, Math, Science, Social Studies, English, and Art.
- To promote health and hygiene through basic practices such as hand washing and teeth brushing
“Being a teacher has always been one of my dreams. I feel proud to work for an organization that offers so many opportunities to the youth of Nebaj."

“It has been great to contribute, if only a little, to the Centro Explorativo in Nebaj. We came to the beautiful Ixil region of Guatemala with the intention of trekking the bountiful wilderness but were also rewarded with an opportunity to give a little back as well. We admire what CE Solutions is doing here at the school – offering assistance and promoting the growth of learning in all children who come, regardless of income level, learning level, etc. It is only fair that these children have a chance to enjoy the lifelong rewards of education and, most importantly, reading. Thanks to CE Solutions the library collection here at the Centro has become one of the largest in the town and its resources are available to all the inhabitants. We have been happy to help this initiative in the little ways we can and are hopeful other like-minded people will continue to do so and help to enrich the community of Nebaj one step at a time.”
